Blogging tips

Life is good but it’s not easy getting a good life. Let’s say you have been through a rough phase of your life and you would like to share your experiences, not just with people around you, but with the world. You can either speak about it and become a speaker or choose blogging and become a blogger.

Since your reading this, Blogging, it is.

Now that you have decided, you search the internet about how to start a blog. After reading various articles on the how’s and why’s, this is what you would probably do.

  1. Think about a name for your blog and get a domain name
  2. Get a hosting which you think is good (*coughs* Hostinger )
  3. Setup a WordPress account and use a theme you like.
  4. You start writing as many blog posts as possible.

Yes! You can be a blogger if you do these, but are they enough? I might say maybe but actually NO

So, what else do you need apart from these? Let’s have a look.

A writing tool

When you become a blogger, it’s not just about writing what you like. It’s about sharing your experiences and knowledge with the reader, taking them to your world and showing them what it feels like to be there.

This isn’t an easy task. A lot of thinking goes into it. Every mistake you make disrupts the reader’s experience. Starting from a punctuation mark, to the word that you just discovered the meaning for in the dictionary, makes a lot of difference to the readers.

So how can you start writing good? You can use a tool that does the job for you. There are tons of writing tools out there but I personally recommend using Grammarly for two reasons.

  1. It’s free to use
  2. It can be used as a browser extension which assists you as you type in an editor in your browser.

A source of income

You must have heard this quote somewhere.

If you’re good at something, never do it for free.

Not me

Let me give you a hint. It was said by a villain, in a movie, which mostly has scenes in the dark, and the hero is dressed as a mammal that is blind and uses ultrasonic frequencies. Figured it out? Yes! It was said by Joker, from the movie The Dark Knight

Blogging can become a source of income if done right. For starters, sign up with Google Adsense, which lets you place ads in your blog. You get paid based on the number of ads that were clicked by the visitors. This might seem small at the beginning, but you can feel the difference once your blog gets popular. You can read this article to know more.

Don’t make a blog just for the money. Make it, so that it leaves a good impression on the readers.

Social media sharing

Never be afraid to share your articles on social media. Readers don’t search for your blog posts, you make them do it. Let them know that you have what they need. But don’t spam their inboxes whenever you post something.

Also, try promoting your blog so that it reaches a lot of people. Promotions take some money from your pocket, so start doing once you feel confident about your posts. Take a look at this article for promotion ideas.

A calm mind

I’m not kidding when I say this. The mind can be tricky sometimes and can make the writing experience less comfortable.

Always clear your head before you start writing something. I always start writing after having a cup of tea, which relaxes my mind and gives me energy. On weekdays, after work, I close my eyes, take a deep breath and think about what I should be writing for the day.

So do what you need to do to relax before taking the pen or using the keyboard.

Conclusion

That brings us to the end of the article. I hope you liked it and please feel free to comment if you think this post can be improved.

Happy blogging.
