Being productive

First of all, a very HAPPY NEW YEAR 2020 to all the 7,577,130,400 (as of June 2019) beautiful souls out there. It has been the most productive decade for the world, as far as I remember (I’m a 90’s kid BTW).

A lot of things have happened. Technology has become more advanced and easily accessible, let it be smartphones or laptops or any other devices. Social media are on top of the chart and MEME’s have come a long way. Fitness and health are becoming a priority and foods are becoming more organic. Entrepreneurship has become a trend. Women’s empowerment is a hot topic and social awareness is huge.

These are good improvements. But what about the bad ones? There can’t be good without the bad right? The decade had its problems and some of them were overpopulation, global warming, climate change and lots of natural disasters. But overall it’s safe to say that changes are what make growth possible.

YES! The world is changing, but are you? What have you been doing this decade? What is the purpose that you live for? Have you found it yet or are you still looking for it? Do you follow a routine or are you living on a whim? If you could answer all these questions on a positive note, then you are already on the right track. If not, then I suggest you keep reading.

What is Productivity?

Let us start with a quote that I admire.

Focus on being productive and not busy

Some productive person

So what is productivity? Is it something that relates to producing something? Yes! It does if you are talking about how effective a factory produces goods. But how does it relate to an individual?

In general terms, it means “The amount of output that is generated from a given input”.

Let’s say there are two persons, working as a software developer in some “X” company.

Person-1 works for 9 hours a day in the office, and when he comes back home, he lays down on his bed and starts to play on his mobile phone until he falls asleep.

Person-2 also works for 9 hours a day in the office. But when he comes back home, he does some workout, reads a book for some time, spends some quality time with family and then goes to sleep.

Which one of these two is productive?

They both work 9 hours a day and so that makes them productive with respect to the office. But when it comes to an individual, Person-2 is more productive than Person-1. So, where does this productivity come from for Person-2 and not for Person-1? Is it a natural talent or something a person acquires on the go? Let’s explore.

The Art of Productivity

Have you ever wondered how “successful” people have a successful career? What is their secret? Are they born under a different star ⭐️ ? Or do they have lots of money which make them successful?

Let’s take Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) as an example. He is one, my role models. Everyone knows him from the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He is now one of the famous actors in Hollywood and also the owner of the “Under Armour” sports apparel, shoes and accessories. Now you will be wondering how he went from WWE to Hollywood in a decade. You can look at this to know the answer.

If you had watched the video, then you had already guessed the secret ingredient. If you think “HARD WORK” is the answer, then you are only half right. The other half of the right answer is “CONSISTENT WORK”. It all depends on the consistency, which means doing it every day. You need to be productive every day if you want to improve yourself and be successful.

Being productive is not an easy task. It takes a lot of both physical and mental effort. You also need lots of determination to keep yourself going every day. If you stay true to your goal, you will find the determination inside of yourself. And this is not something that can be taught. It comes from your experience and how you approach your day to day life. You can also call it “A Choice”. Everything you choose determines what’s going to happen next. You can choose to spend your time like Person-2 or Person-1. So choose wisely.

If you find it hard to be productive, then welcome to the club.

Person-1 was ME a year back (2018) and Person-2 is also ME now (2019 – Future). If I can do it, then so can you. Let me give you some tips which could help you be productive every day.

Tips for a productive day

  1. Wake up early and try doing some exercises or yoga to start your day fresh.
  2. Try to keep your sleeping schedule from 6:30 to 7 hours a day.
  3. Eat as healthy as possible and avoid junk foods as much as possible.
  4. Drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated.
  5. Keep a checklist of things that you need to do for the day.
  6. Surround yourself with people who encourage you.
  7. Read lots of books and newspapers to keep yourself updated.
  8. Avoid playing games which actually consumes a lot of time and lowers your productivity.

Conclusion

Although it might seem like a lot to take in, try following one tip at a time. The more consistent you are, the more of a habit it becomes. And yes, some days cannot be as productive as the rest. It’s better to take some rest on non-productive days so that you can start the next day afresh.

I assure you that if you follow a routine every day, you will start seeing fruitful results. Because whatever you do today, paves the way for a better tomorrow.
